creative explorations

House of The Dragon is a spin-off of The Game of Thrones series and we wanted to create immersive ads that got fans excited for the new show and really emphasize House Targaryen, a prominent part of the GoT world that featured dragons and the people who wield the power to ride them.

The final results were more toned down, merging some of the initial creative accents with a more simplistic approach. Because there’s a lot of bright oranges and heavy imagery going on, we felt it was better to land on something more minimal, to let the art shine better. Here I utilized some of the fire embers and flares to create a subtle shine to the borders that contain the key art. Giving the separation between HBOMAX branding below creates a better sense of space and legibility.

Below, you’ll also see a slightly different design for the Mid-Funnel banners. This was further toned down, with more elegant and simple gold accents, giving the spotlight to in-show screenshots of the characters, creating a sense of familiarity as the target would be fans who are already familiar with the show.

For this project, we wanted to get fans of Game of Thrones hyped and excited for the prequel of their beloved show, by giving them a sneak peek into the characters of House of the Dragon. Here, I was tasked to storyboard and create designs that accompanied the video. We wanted to play on the elements of fire without being overbearing. The border design gives an immersive feel that ties together the show’s branding and content and makes the viewer feel they are part of that world. The style here is elegant but rustic, giving an organic feel with respects to the royalty of the Targaryens. The final execution is subtle, elevated, and gives a sense of history.
